Signing for the Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing

Briarwood reaches out to the Deaf and hard-of-hearing community each Sunday in our 8:00 a.m. Sunday worship service. This service is “signed” each and every Sunday morning, allowing the Deaf and hard-of-hearing to enjoy worship with the entire congregation while meeting new friends in a loving atmosphere. Invite those you know who would benefit from this service, or if you are Deaf or hard of hearing, you are invited to join us every Sunday morning at 8:00!

In addition, Briarwood offers four signing classes on Wednesday nights at 6:30 p.m.:

Beginner Class — S205
Learn 400 signs (with daily practice), introduction to deaf culture, and be able to communicate using basic signs.

Intermediate Class I — S207
Builds on Beginner’s Class. Learn 400 additional signs (with daily practice) with increased exposure to and communication with the deaf community.

Intermediate Class II — S209
Builds on Intermediate Class I. Learn 400 additional signs (with daily practice) while continuing to increase exposure and communication skills with the deaf community.

Religious Interpreting — S203
This class builds on the Beginner, Intermediate I, and Intermediate II Sign Language classes. Our goal is to learn 1) religious signs (with daily practice), 2) practical interpreting techniques using expressive and receptive skills in a classroom and “real-time” setting, and 3) increase exposure to and have communications with the deaf community.
