Disciple Making

Briarwood is committed to being a Great Commission Church because disciple making is the charter of the church given by Christ to be pursued until He returns. (Matt. 28:18-20). We believe therefore that Christ must be at the center of all our disciple making ministries and that all our ministries must contribute to the fulfillment of the Great Commission. We believe that disciple making ought to be Christ-centered in Focus, Process and Purpose.

Disciple making is Christ-Centered in Focus. We are to make disciples of Jesus, for Jesus. We are to call men, women and children to follow Him and no one else. Disciple making is also Christ-Centered in Process. That is to say, we proclaim Christ, in all His matchless glory, power, love, beauty and authority as the means of making disciples. Finally, Disciple making is also Christ-centered in Purpose. Our purpose is to present the church mature in Christ. We are fashioning followers after the image of the One they are following. (Col. 1:28-29)

OUR VISION

We are committed to equipping and encouraging every member of Briarwood to passionately and intentionally pursue the preeminence of Jesus Christ.

HIM WE PROCLAIM, WARNING EVERYONE AND TEACHING EVERYONE WITH ALL WISDOM, THAT WE MAY PRESENT EVERYONE MATURE IN CHRIST. FOR THIS I TOIL, STRUGGLING WITH ALL HIS ENERGY THAT HE POWERFULLY WORKS WITHIN ME.
COLOSSIANS 1:28-29

WHAT IS MATURITY?

A mature disciple is one who has believed the gospel and joyfully strives to glorify God through embracing the preeminence of Christ in every aspect of life by power of the Holy Spirit. He or she is grounded in the Word of God and prayer, steadfast in faith, growing in holiness, marked by love, and a vitally functioning member of a local church. A mature disciple is also engaged in the advancement of the Kingdom of God while living expectantly in the hope of the return of Christ.

HOW DO I MATURE?

We grow through the process of disciple making. Disciple making is the work of grace initiated by the proclamation of the gospel and continues by applying the gospel to every aspect of life. Disciple making enfolds believers into intentional and accountable relationships within the body of Christ, and is furthered through the regular use of the means of grace and the exercise of spiritual disciplines.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT?

At Briarwood we believe that the best way for Christians to embrace and cultivate the preeminence of Christ is through life-on-life relationships in small groups that focus on prayer, Bible study, accountability and fellowship. These relationships provide the intimacy and security needed to grow towards maturity in Christ.

We offer several different types of disciple making groups. Whether you are a busy professional with a crowded calendar, a wife and mother who keeps her household running, a young couple eager to start a new life together, or a retiree enjoying a new measure of freedom—there is a group here at Briarwood for you.
