Introducing our first faculty bio of the 2024-25 season… Meet Briarwood Ballet’s Executive Director, Peggy Townes!
Peggy Barker Townes grew up in Birmingham, AL dancing under the instruction of her mother, Barbara Barker. Towards the end of high school, Peggy discovered a love for musical theatre and went on to attend Samford University as a theater major under Harold Hunt. During her college years Peggy performed leading roles in many shows including The Sound of Music, Gigi, The Music Man, You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown, My Fair Lady, Summer and Smoke, as well as some period pieces such as Moliere’s The Misanthrope and Sheridan’s The Rivals. In 1986 she had her first opportunity to direct a show for which she was rewarded the Bonnie Bolding Swearingen Award for Best Director. In the following years Peggy joined the faculty at Briarwood Ballet, founded a children’s theater program called NarrowWay Kids, and co-founded MoTowne Productions alongside Tammy Moore. In 2012, God made it clear that He was calling Peggy to step away from children’s theatre and accept the position of Executive Director of Briarwood Ballet. Although she accepted the job with fear and trembling, Peggy has delighted in the privilege of continuing her mother’s vision and legacy. Serving the Lord alongside the best staff and faculty to train young dancers to use their gifts in worship of our Savior is an amazing calling.

We are excited to announce Brittany Bischoff as Briarwood Ballet’s Artistic Director for the 2024-25 season!
Mrs. Brittany has been teaching at Briarwood Ballet since 2012, working closely with and choreographing on Ballet Exaltation for the past several years. In the spring of 2023 she stepped into the position of interim artistic director, and this year we are thrilled to have her step into the role fully.
We are grateful to have a leader who remains humble while pursuing excellence, but more importantly we are thankful to have an artistic director who loves and seeks the Lord first.
Stay tuned to learn more about Mrs. Brittany, as well as our other amazing faculty for 2024-25!

YEEEESSS! What an incredible gift these girls have been given to spend time learning from and being with this amazing woman of God, mentor, and instructor. She is so much more than just an artistic director! Not only does she create a beautifully artistic performance, but she prepares and prays over the spiritual atmosphere. Thank you Brittany Bischoff for loving our girls and for leading them and your audience in worship and into the very presence of our Creator and loving Father!!!
We are so incredibly blessed to have her pouring her knowledge of the arts and spiritual wisdom into our children. She truly cares and invests so much into each one of them. What a gift God has given to this amazing program by giving her a heart for our kids.
