OUR MISSION STATEMENT
ABOUT THE BRIARWOOD FOOD SERVICE MINISTRY
Theologian Frederick Buechner has said, “To eat is to acknowledge our dependence—both on food and each other. To eat any meal together is to meet at the level of our most basic need.” When you look across our Fellowship Hall during a meal and see our members serving, encouraging, comforting and supporting one another and modeling what it means to live in a Christian community, you come to understand what an important role in the ministries of Briarwood food plays.
The Food Service Ministry has been operating under the guidance of Sherri Smith since 1999. During that time, the ministry has doubled the number of events as well as the number of people served. We now serve meals and snacks to nearly 30,000 people each year in regularly-scheduled events, and another 10,000 at receptions and special events.
Each Wednesday evening we serve approximately 450 MidWeek Dinners. These popular meals include soup and salad bar or a choice of entrées, two or more vegetables, and a delicious dessert. Please consider adding your name to our Mid-week reservation list. Also, we accomplish these dinners and so many more events with volunteers and would love to have you help us as we serve our congregation. Please give us a call at 776-5374 or email us at ssmith@briarwood.org if you would like to volunteer to serve.
The Food Service Ministry at Briarwood is constantly growing and changing. Sherri and her excellent food service assistants treasure the privilege of feeding God’s people in this special place.
